At 0905 hours on Saturday, April 5th, AFC along with mutual aid from West Grove, Hockessin, Kennett, Po-Mar-Lin, Cochranville and Longwood (RIT) Fire Companies were alerted to the 8700 block of Gap Newport Pike for a reported house on fire.
Initial reports were from a resident advising the back of the house was on fire. The SCCRPD arrived on scene, advising the back of the house was on fire with extension into the attic space. Chief 23 arrived, confirming the reports and established the command and requested the Working Fire Dispatch, which added additional units to the incident.
Engine 23 arrived as the first due engine, split laying their 5" supply line up the driveway from Gap Newport Pike. While Deputy 22 completed a 360, and was assigned to the #1 division, crews from Engine 23 deployed their handlines and began fire suppression.
Ladder 22 had the first due special service, setting up their aerial to the roof. Engine 24 arrived as the second due engine, picking up Engine 23's split lay and continuing to the hydrant across the road. Engine 24's crew took an additional handline from Engine 23 and assisted their crew. Ladder 25 arrived as the second due special, and was assigned to open the roof with Deputy 25 being the roof sector officer. With the Ladder 25 crew being put to work, command requested Cranston Heights for the RIT. Tanker 19 arrived as the third due engine and assisted on the division #1 operation. Squad 36 arrived as the fourth due engine, and was assigned I-RIT, until the arrival of Rescue-Engine 14. Additional fire units arrived, staging the apparatus and completing various fire ground task. The fire was placed under control at 0953 hours, with overhaul in process.
Ambulance 23 along with Medic 94-2 transported one of the residents to an area hospital for minor burns.
Final units cleared the incident at 1132 hours.
