Early Friday morning shortly after 0600 hours, Avondale units along with automatic mutual aid were alerted to the 100 block of Willow Street for smoke in the residence. Chief and Captain 23 arrived on scene to find a two-story single family dwelling with nothing showing. Chief 23 set up the Willow Street command, while Captain 23 investigated. Captain 23 found smoke showing from the "C" side of the residence. Engine 23 arrived as the first due engine, laying a supply line from the hydrant at Main & Center Streets to the scene. Engine 23 deployed their handline and crews found a small fire in the crawl space. Engine 23 quickly extinguished the fire while mutual aid crews assisted with opening up, searches and ventilation. The incident was placed under control, and units began to be released. Final units cleared the scene in just under an hour.
