On Wednesday morning at 0834 hours, the company was alerted for a MVC at the intersection of Newark and New Garden Roads. Avondale units made the response. As Chief 23 was arriving on scene, the police department advised the 911 center of 1 subject trapped in the vehicle. With this report, Chief 23 added Squad 19 from the Hockessin Fire Company to the incident to assist. After further investigation, it was determined that an additional ambulance and 2 paramedics would be needed. Command requested the additional EMS resources bringing Southern Chester County EMS (Medic 94-2), and Longwood Fire Company's MICU. Squad 23 and Squad 19 arrived. Their personnel worked together to remove the windshield, passenger side doors, and roof to extract the trapped victim in just under 15 minutes. Both patients were transported to local hospitals by the EMS units on scene. Newark and New Garden Roads were both closed during this incident by fire police from Avondale, Hockessin, and West Grove Fire Companies. Once Blittersdorf's towing arrived and removed the vehicle from the scene, Fire Police opened the roads, and all units cleared.
Units cleared at 0930 hours.
