Severe Storms Keep Avondale Busy

On Monday, August 7, 2023, members and staff from the Avondale Fire Company responded to 10 fire calls and 2 EMS calls for service.

Fire Chief Cole assumed a stationary command post during the spree of severe thunderstorms to the region. Fire Chief Cole diverted units where they were needed as calls came in.

Engine 1 and Lieutenant (North of 41)
Engine 2 and Captain (South of 41)
Rescue 23 (where needed),
Traffic and Deputy 23 responded to multiple locations within the first due local.
Ambulance 23 handled 2 EMS calls and responded to the 100 block of Landenberg Road, where no medical services were needed.

The department responded to:

Colonial Farm Drive in New Garden Township for a power line on fire.

Pemberton and Cedar Springs Roads in New Garden Township for power lines arcing.

100 block of Landenberg Road in New Garden Township for a tree into a residence.

Spencer and Newark Roads in West Marlborough Township for power lines arcing.

1500 block of Yeatmens Station Road in New Garden Township for power lines arcing.

1200 block of Newark Road in New Garden Township for power lines arcing.

100 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in Avondale Borough for a commercial fire alarm.

Avondale Units also responded to assist New Castle County on the following incidents:

Unit block of Ironwood Drive in New Castle County, Delaware for trees down on multiple residences.

Unit block of Quartz Mill Road in New Castle County, Delaware for a tree down on a residence.

Unit block of Kraffert Court in New Castle County, Delaware for trees down on multiple residences.

During this time, there were no reports of injuries. However, we responded to multiple calls involving structural damage.
