On Saturday, August 5th just after midnight, the Kennett and Longwood Fire Companies were alerted to a reported microwave on fire in the borough of Kennett. Deputy 25 responded just after dispatch and was advised that the 911 Center was receiving multiple calls for smoke coming from the building, and CCDES was upgrading the assignment. Engine 23-2 was staffed in quarters and responded in just under a minute. Engine 23-2 arrived as the second-due engine. Engine 23-2 stretched a 200’ cross lay off of Engine 25-2 (first-due engine) and began making entry into the building. Crews assisted Engine 25’s crew with fire extinguishment and primary searches. All searches were negative. Crews were released from the scene and covered the Kennett & Avondale region. Rescue and Engine 2 remained staffed until companies were released around 0400 hours.
