On March 7th at 9:26am, Avondale volunteers were alerted for an unknown type of fire in the 900 block of Penn Green Road. It was quickly determined that a vehicle's gas tank was on fire inside the building. With this information to the 911 center, CCFB upgraded the incident to a commercial structural fire, which added additional units to the call. 23-31 was first on the scene and reported heavy smoke showing. Engine 23-1 deployed a 5" supply LDH from Route 41 and Penn Green Road to the fire scene. Chief 23 arrived and established the Avondale command while Deputy 23 handled OPS. Engine 23-1 with the first due engine crew pulled 2 hand-lines and began to knock the bulk of the fire down. Ladder 22 arrived as the first due truck and set up on the "B" side to access the roof. Crews opened the roof and handled fire extension in the ceiling/roof area. Engine 22-1 was the second due engine and had the hydrant at Route 41 and Penn Green Road. Tower 24 arrived as the second due truck and set up on the C/D side of the building. Engine 24 arrived as the third due engine and dropped a 2nd 5" LDH from the north side of the incident. As additional companies arrived, crews were assigned and handled fire grounds task. Penn Green Road was closed temporarily during the incident.
We would like the thank Modena (Sta.37) and Christiana (Lanco Sta. 52) Fire Companies for relocating our local, taking in the AFA and assisting our members in getting our units back in-service.
