At 1609 hours, the Avondale Fire Company was dispatched to the 1600 block of Newark Road in West Marlborough Township for a tree down on multiple wires causing an active brush fire.

The Engine and Ambulance made the response after dispatch with the Utility following shortly after. Crews arrived on location to find a large tree that had taken down multiple cable and high-tension wires along with an active brush fire due to the high-tension lines.

At the same time Station 36 (Po-Mar-Lin) received another call of a tree down on wires with a brush fire on Newark Road also in the 1600 block, but upon further investigation it was determined that both incidents were one in the same.

Both crews from 23 and 36 remained on scene until PECO arrived to secure the power before crews began to extinguish the fire that was making its way up a hill adjacent to the downed tree.

At the same time, Fire Police from both Stations 23 and 36, along with Traffic 23, closed Newark Road at Bartram Road and Spencer Road until PENNDOT arrived with barricades to fully close the roadway.

The fire was placed under control after 10 minutes of crews working to put out the flames and soak down any hidden hot spots.

Final crews cleared the scene at 1753 hours.
