The Avondale Fire Company along with mutual aid from West Grove Fire Company were alerted to the 1700 block of North Clay Creek Road just before 0930 hours for a reported chimney fire. Due to career staff between both stations, Engine, Tanker and Captain 23 along with Ladder 22 responded within a minute of dispatch. Additional information stated that the chimney was on fire with smoke throughout the attic. Captain 23 requested the assignment be upgraded to a house fire which would bring in additional resources from Kennett, Po-Mar-Lin, Longwood, Union of Oxford, & Hockessin. Engine and Tanker 23 arrived first finding a 2-story single family dwelling with smoke showing from the Charlie-side eves. Engine 23's crew found a small fire in the attic. Fire crews worked together between the roof and the attic to contain the fire. Crews also found fire extension between the first and second floors with a fire in the chimney. Crews opened up the walls and extinguished the fire. The fire was placed under control soon after.

Captain Cole held the Clay Creek Command.
