At 2113 hours Friday night, Avondale Fire Company along with surrounding mutual aid companies were dispatched to the 100 Block of Knoxlyn Farm Drive in Kennett Township for a reported residential fire.

Responding units were told by Chester County Fireboard that the homeowner had a fire in the garage that was spreading to the rest of the home. Longwood's Fire Chief (McCarthy) first arrived and confirmed the report of heavy fire showing from the garage and immediately requested the first alarm tanker task force due to the lack of hydrants in the area.

Tanker 23 was a part of this tanker task force and made the response and was one of the first arriving tankers on the scene. Tanker 23 and Longwood's Engine 25-2 set up a water supply site at the entrance of Knoxlyn Farm Development off of Creek Road to be able to shuttle large quantities of water from the many tankers up to the scene utilizing multiple nurse engines. A nurse engine is essentially an engine that drafts out of the water supply site, in this case porta-tanks that hold water, and suctions it through the engines pump and up to the next relay engine.

During this time, Tanker 23 was also being filled by the other tankers on location and sending their own water supply up to Engine 25-2 until the water supply was fully set up and operational. Once the porta-tanks were set up, tankers on location were able to dump their water into them for the nurse engine to send up to the scene.

During the middle of the fire attack, Knoxlyn Farm Command upgraded the assignment to a second alarm due to the extensive amount of overhaul that was needed to be done to check for any fire extension and more manpower to conduct the operation.

Utility 23 made the response for manpower who helped work the water supply site as well as repack attack and supply lines at the scene. Traffic 23 responded to provided traffic control around the scene until crews cleaned up.

Utility 23 also made a stop at Kennett Fire Company to help their crews wash and repack their supply and attack lines.
