The Avondale Fire Company, along with mutual aid from Hockessin, West Grove, Po-Mar-Lin, Kennett, & Longwood for RIT were alerted to the 100 block of Watson Mill Road in London Britain Township for a reported house fire.

Engines 1 & 2, Deputy, Captain, and Ambulance 1 all responded on dispatch. While responding, crews received additional information of fire in the wall extending into the siding. Captain 23 arrived first with a 2.5 story single family home with smoke showing from the front door and established the “Avondale Command.” Engine 23-2 arrived as the first due engine and laid a supply line from the end of the driveway. Engine 23-1 arrived as the second due engine and stood by for the second hand line if needed. Ladder 19 arrived as the first due ladder truck and began laddering the home. Engine 23-2 along with Cranston Heights Deputy 14 (in the area) made quick work of the fire and it was placed under control shortly after.

Crews used fans to ventilate the home and cleared the scene.

The fire is currently under investigation by the Chester County Fire Marshal’s Office.
