At 1700 hours on Friday March 15th, The Avondale Fire Company headed to the Minquas Fire Company of Newport Delaware (Station 23) with the Rescue truck to cover their district while their members take time off to spend at the hospital with Rescue Captain Smiley.
On Thursday morning, Rescue Captain Smiley responded to a working house fire on Mill Creek Road, where he fell though a floor and was trapped in the residence. A mayday was called for Captain Smiley and he was rescued quickly by fellow firefighters. Captain Smiley was transported to the Christiana Hospital and then transported to Crozer Chester Burn Center for burns and injuries he sustained while being trapped in the fire.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Captain Smiley, his family, The Minquas Fire Company, and all involved in this horrible incident.
Stay strong brother and keep up the good fight.
Rescue 23 ran a medical assist call while covering the district.
