November 30, 2016

The Avondale Fire Company was dispatched at 1843 hours on November 30th for a gas leak inside a home with the residents evacuating. Chief and Assistant 23 arrived shortly after dispatch with an odor of natural gas outside the residence and a strong odor of gas at the front door. Chief 23 established "Maloney Command", while Assistant 23 handled operations. Rescue 23 arrived with their crew packed up and made entry into the house to check for the source. As crews made entry, they got very high readings on their gas meters . The gas supply to the home was secured at the meter. Engine 23-2 stood-by at the hydrant preparing to lay an LDH if needed. The rescue crew determined the hot water heater line to be the source of the gas leak. The electric was secured to the property. The incident was placed under control. Engine 23-2 was moved down to the scene, setting up PPV (Positive Pressure Ventilation Fans) for ventilation.
While on the scene, crews showed the children from the neighborhood the fire engine, let them hold some tools, and try on fire gear before clearing.

Units: Rescue, Engine 2, Ambulance 2, Chief, Assistant.
